DibbsBarker announces 1 July promotions

DibbsBarker is pleased to announce the promotion of 10 lawyers across the firm, effective 1 July.

Promoted to partner is Angela Brookes, who specialises in insurance law with a focus on workers compensation, public liability and product liability matters. Angela’s clients include state, national and international insurers, self-insurers and large corporations. With strong expertise in personal injury and product liability litigation, Angela has a wealth of experience representing her clients in settlement conferences, mediations and coronial inquests, and acting on behalf of international corporations in relation to claims brought under the product liability provisions of the Australian Consumer Law. Angela also drafts and advises on codes of practice and policies with insurance implications, such as occupational health and safety risks.

Angela joined DibbsBarker’s Brisbane office in 2008. She is a member of the Australian Insurance Law Association and Women in Insurance.

DibbsBarker has promoted three practitioners to the position of special counsel. Louise Ridley works primarily in the defence of workers compensation claims and gained in-house experience at two major insurers before joining the firm. Bettina Sorbello also specialises in insurance defence work, focusing on workers compensation and product liability matters. Peppy Mitchell advises on risk management, with expertise that is becoming increasingly valuable as clients across all sectors continue to face a greater variety and volume of risks around issues ranging from privacy to anti-bribery and corruption regulatory compliance.

Two senior associate and four associate promotions have also been made across the Banking, Insolvency & Disputes, Insurance, Real Estate & Construction and People & Workplace teams.

“We are proud to kick off the new financial year with a strong round of promotions that recognise not only our lawyers’ technical expertise, but also their dedication to providing outstanding service to our clients,” said Stephen Purcell, DibbsBarker’s Managing Partner. “I am delighted to see Angela Brookes join the partnership and I congratulate all our promoted lawyers on achieving significant milestones in their careers.
