Half of Australia's Certified Licensing Professionals in private legal practice are now at one firm

Services: Intellectual Property & Technology
Date: 13 February 2013
DibbsBarker Senior Associates, Catherine Boxhall and Michael Sutton, have recently earned the Certified Licensing Professional qualification. They join Rob McInnes, Partner in the DibbsBarker Intellectual Property and Technology team, as part of a select group of only six private practice lawyers in Australia who have met the requirements to become Certified Licensing Professionals.
The CLP designation acknowledges intellectual property licensing professionals who have demonstrated their experience and proficiency in the commercialisation of technology. It is administered by a US-based foundation and built on internationally applicable standards of practice, knowledge and ethics to differentiate licensing professionals who have met examination and other requirements necessary to become certified.
Commenting on Catherine and Michael’s achievement, Rob McInnes, said, “Between them, they have over 21 years’ experience in negotiating commercialisation transactions for technology companies across a range of industries. This qualification recognises their experience and is further recognition of the firm’s expertise and leadership in this area.”
“Licensing transactions are core to the business of many of our clients, in particular those in the medical, pharmaceutical, renewable energy and information technology sectors. More of our team having this industry-leading international accreditation means clients can be confident that they are getting the benefit of insight into overseas trends and practices in deal-making. This adds to our ability to provide more commercially relevant and focused advice, and helps our clients to stand up to pressure from larger, overseas companies in what can be very high-stakes negotiations,” he concludes.
