John is a member of our Commercial Services Group and is Co-Managing Partner of the Canberra practice. John is also a member of our Financial Services Industry Group.
John joined DibbsBarker as a partner in 1994. Prior to that he was a partner of Abbott Tout for ten years and, following admission in Victoria in 1974, worked variously for private firms and the Commonwealth of Australia in Victoria, Tasmania and the Australian Capital Territory.
John practises broadly in commercial law litigation (including appearing as counsel), banking and finance law, franchising, estate planning and administrative law.
His clients include major banks, corporations, private companies and the Commonwealth as well as overseas corporations.
He acts for significant commercial interests in the negotiation and mediation of disputes as a participant and is a qualified mediator.
He is a panel solicitor for the ACT Law Society advising and appearing primarily in disciplinary matters. He is an external director of the Royal College of Nursing Australia and Chairman of the ACT Law Society Administrative Law Committee. He was for six years a part-time legal member of the Social Security Appeals Tribunal.
