Mark is a Special Counsel in our Insurance Services Group and a member of our National Insurance Industry Group, Medical & Pharmaceutical Industry Group and Financial Services Industry Group.
Mark has over 15 years experience in insurance, reinsurance and corporate law. His clients include major Australian insurers and reinsurers, London underwriters, medical defence organisations, insurance brokers, government departments and corporations.
Specialising in front-end insurance and reinsurance work, Mark has particular expertise in financial lines insurance, medical indemnity insurance, lenders' mortgage insurance, terrorism insurance and treaty and facultative reinsurance. Mark's other areas of expertise include policy drafting, competition issues, privacy, marketing, distribution channels, compliance with prudential and FSR regulatory requirements and drafting submissions to government on issues affecting the industry. His expertise in corporate insurance issues includes the identification and management of risk in commercial transactions and Mark reviews major corporations' insurance arrangements and advises on coverage disputes. Mark also has very broad experience in disputes arising under industrial special risks, public and product liability, professional indemnity and directors’ and officers’ liability policies.
Mark has assisted several of Australia's leading banks to obtain directors' and officers' liability, bond, crime and professional indemnity insurance on the best possible terms. Mark has advised industry and government stakeholders on major projects including the establishment of the NSW home warranty scheme, the Commonwealth medical indemnity schemes and the drafting and implementation of the General Insurance Code of Practice. He has also advised insurers and reinsurers on significant projects affecting their businesses including the transfer of insurance and reinsurance business under the Insurance Act, the establishment and acquisition of insurance businesses in Australia, and responding to investigations and enforcement actions by APRA and ASIC.
