Michael is a senior associate in our Intellectual Property & Technology (IP&T) Group.
His expertise focuses on intellectual property and information technology, and competition and consumer law.
Michael provides advice on the commercialisation and exploitation of technology, and the protection of brands. He assists clients with the structuring, drafting and negotiation of a range of agreements, including IP and IT licences, consultancies, development and collaboration agreements. He is experienced in the recovery of domain names. He also advises insolvency practitioners on IP issues faced when appointed to a business.
In tune with the needs of his clients, Michael also specialises in providing competition and consumer law advice. He advises clients on both the restrictive trade practices parts of the Competition and Consumer Act, as well as the Australian Consumer Law. Michael is experienced in dealing with the ACCC.
Michael originally qualified as a solicitor in the UK at Lovell White Durrant (now Hogan Lovells).
Michael is a current committee member and a former chairperson of the New South Wales division of the Intellectual Property Society of Australia and New Zealand. He is also a member of the Licensing Executives Society of Australia and New Zealand, the Copyright Society of Australia and the New South Wales Society for Computers and the Law.
Michael presents on both IP and competition and consumer law issues. He has been widely published in publications as diverse as Marketing Magazine, the Australian Construction Law Bulletin, the Journal of Banking and Finance Law and Practice and the Internet Law Bulletin.
