Rob is a Partner in our Intellectual Property & Technology Services Group.
Rob advises technology companies, research organisations, and investors in matters relating to the commercialisation of novel technologies, and in the intellectual property-related aspects of major projects and transactions. He is a specialist in the structuring and negotiation of patent licences, and other contracts for the development and commercialisation of technologies.
In addition to his experience as a lawyer in private practice, he has served as the in-house manager of IP and technology transfer in a multinational corporation. In this role he gained valuable experience in the development of IP portfolios that are comprehensive, cost-effective, and integrated with a company’s business strategy.
Rob was recently named by Intellectual Asset Management Magazine in its "World's Top 250 Patent and Technology Licensing Lawyers", and ranked as the one and only 'highly recommended' lawyer in the Australian market. He is one of only five Australians to have met the requirements for the US-based Certified Licensing Professional qualification.
His recent experience includes structuring, negotiating and drafting licence and collaborative development agreements for life sciences companies from pharmaceutical multinationals to university spin-offs, and for mining and other research organisations. In recent years more than half of his deals have involved cross-border licensing and royalty flows. He conducts due diligence investigations into the IP portfolios of a variety of technology companies, primarily for venture capital investors.
