Information Fact Sheet

The Safety Net Act introduces the requirement that all federal system employers must provide to their employees a Workplace Regulations Fact Sheet (“Fact Sheet”) prepared by the WA setting out their employee entitlements.

From 20 July 2007, all federal system employers must take reasonable steps to ensure that the Fact Sheet is given:
  •  to all new employees, within seven days of commencing employment
  •  to all continuing employees within three months, by 20 October 2007.
This includes any employees engaged on private – or ‘common law’ – employment agreements, as well as those on registered workplace agreements such as AWAs.

An aim of the Fact Sheet is to provide advice to the employees regarding the protected award conditions supported by the Fairness Test, however the Fact Sheet also refers to the employee’ entitlements regarding:
  • annual leave, maximum hours of work and minimum, federal rates of pay;
  •  unlawful termination;
  •  union membership; and
  • the payslip and record keeping requirements of the employer.
A failure to comply with the requirements within the time frames will expose the employer to penalties of $110 per employee.
