Our graduate program
While a summer clerkship will give you a good overview of the different practice groups and a feel for the firm, it’s not really until you join our Graduate Program that you will gain an indepth understanding of exactly what the practice groups do and which best play to your individual strengths and interests.

When you join DibbsBarker’s Graduate Program you’ll have the opportunity to work closely with our experienced lawyers. We aim for you to undertake six month rotations in at least two of our five practice areas – Insurance, Commercial, Financial Services, Disputes & Litigation and Property & Projects.

In deciding upon rotations, we recommend that our clerks are exposed to a combination of both litigious and non-litigious groups, to appreciate the differences between the two. An understanding of different practice groups will also benefit your development as a well-rounded lawyer, as most legal issues don't necessarily fit neatly within a particular practice group.

These six-monthly practice group rotations will allow you to acquire well-rounded experience, exposure to numerous areas of legal practice and an opportunity to decide which area of law you seek to specialise in.

As a graduate, you are allocated a buddy and supervisor to support your development. You will also undertake Practical Legal Training accredited by the College of Law to satisfy the admission requirements and be exposed to plenty of tailored learning and development (DibbSMART) opportunities along the way. Our aim is to make you as prepared as possible for becoming a practicing lawyer, through a combination of ‘on the job’ and structured training.
